Last Summer Hol?

This summer holiday has really been off to a pretty rocking start.

Applied for a part time job at a Japanese restaurant and got it; then flew off to Phuket with 3-5 other friends and had a most memorable trip (missing flights, bodyboarding, kayaking, bridge, hotel hopping, riding a motorbike, winding roads, awesomely fresh and cheap seafood, and all round great company); and then got a call when I was in Phuket to get the news that I have surprisingly got the offer for the one-month leadership program that I applied for. Wow.

Oh yea and amidst all that there's of course been sports - floorball and hockey. Floorball... well we've been getting thrashed like nobody's business but ironically I can feel myself improving too. Oh and yesterday was a great day out with friends xx+winnie - good day of food, laughter and shopping for winnie! hehe.

Feels like life's been on the fast track. Gonna take half of today to organise it a little and slow it down for a while.

But =) whee. =)

Cooking, and Ironies

Watching Masterchef Australia invariably has me finding out more about Australian chefs like Matt Moran, Shaun Presland, Peter Kuruvita etc. One of them is none other than Neil Perry of Aria Restaurant Sydney.

The search for more videos and recipes was spurred by a beautiful sounding dish of Fish poached in Coconut Milk with Garam Masala. Eventually found more of his recipe videos, and the ironic thing is that he deals a lot with Asian food. Or basically replicates them. Asian being Chinese, Thai, Indian so far. Just a little ironic that I am learning things like master stock and salt and pepper tofu from a Caucasian really.

What a mixed up saddled up shooked up world.

Elections + Yojimbo

Exams over since wed and haven't been doing anything much since then. Just like that 3-4 days have passed and today is already Saturday!

Glad that I finally got out of the bed-potato syndrome today: first went for the Japan Foundation film festival with Isabel (!) and watched Yojimbo which turned out to be a surprisingly engaging movie; next was off to a rally at Woodlands which had SDP there today, because bel has the hots for VVS haha. I tagged along because I've never actually been to a rally and the atmosphere was really quite amazing! The stadium wasn't that full when we got there at about 7.15, but it certainly was full house at 10pm!

Whatever happens this 7 May, I just know this elections 2011 already has and definitely will be monumental for Singapore. This 7 May is crucial in charting the direction of Singapore's future hereon - this is unbelievably exciting but a little worrying too. There is always the idea that with the buzz that this elections generated, the incumbent might win and then start on ways to shut down and prevent any sort of "noise" as this in future elections - which is a terrifying idea.

I'm not really strongly pro any side, but I really do hope that certain issues will get tackled after this elections, especially inflation, and policies regarding welcoming foreigners and keeping Singaporeans within.

It's quite funny to see how so many PAP candidates and ministers seem so out of depth in dealing with POLITICS; perhaps our system has become so entrenched that most of them are such good bureaucrats but so poor in being politicians. Ah the fine line - lovely.
